What is NAI?
NAI is a joint collaboration by the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS), the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR), and over 50 community organizations across the state of Illinois. The program aims to “provide citizen services to eligible permanent residents to apply for citizenship.” (IDHS.gov)
Our goal with implementing this program is to empower our communities with the liberty of citizenship and know and understand their rights and responsibilities, allowing our students to confidently plant their roots in this country. Regardless of where a person is born, anybody that decides to make this country their home should do so without barriers

What Do We Offer?
Through the NAI program, LRII will aim to improve the quality of life for immigrants and refugees by providing education, resources and support to immigrants and refugees in their integration into American society. Our education classes will focus on improving English skills to proficiency as well as preparing our students for success for the interview/test portions the citizenship process.
Along with our education services, we will continue to offer students additional services that are already offered to our clients including Legal Resources/Assistance, Case Management Support, and Civic Engagement Assistance.

Citizenship Classes/Naturalization Prep
For our Citizenship Education, we are offering a free 12-week course for Legal Permanent Residents (LPR’s) that live in the state of Illinois for five (5) years OR (3) years if you are married to a U.S citizen.
In this program, our course will prepare students to pass the naturalization process with confidence. We do this by covering all parts of the test in our classes:
We test our students’ ability when they start the course, and before the end of the course they are tested again to ensure that they can pass the real exam. We will use the learning standards and materials from the U.S Citizen and Immigrant Services website (U.S.C.I.S) for citizenship preparation and English proficiency related to the interview and test.

ESL Classes
In addition to our Citizenship Education, we will also provide classes that focus on English Language Proficiency. With a focus on reading and writing, this course intends to meet our students at their current English level and build-up their speaking/writing/listening skills.
If you wish to prepare for something in specific, we will work with you to help you reach your personal English-Language Goals.
